Can't Send Email? Here's How To Fix It

If you are not able to send email from an account at your domain name

  1. Make sure that "SMTP Authentication" is turned on in your email software.  (For assistance, see other article in this knowledgebase, "Setting Up SMTP Authentication".)

  2. If you still can't send email even after you've made sure SMTP Authentication is turned on, then most likely your internet service provider is discouraging the use of outgoing mail servers other than their own.  This is also known as "blocking port 25", which prevents you from using the outgoing mail service on your hosted domain name.  [You might want to inquire with your internet service provider (i.e. your DSL provider, or cable internet provider, etc.) and ask if they block port 25.  Thankfully, it is possible to bypass this block which has become common practice among many internet providers -- use the following technique:

Your web hosting account also comes with secure SMTP (outgoing mail) service which operates over a different port.  Use this if you need to avoid a block on port 25, or if you want your outgoing email connection to use SSL anyways.  To use this feature, switch your email software to use secure SMTP over Port 465 instead of normal SMTP over Port 25.  You should then be able to send mail.  If you need assistance with this, please contact our support team.
